The Farm Box

The Farm Box is a weekly subscription to buy in-season produce directly from the farm and pick it up at a public location. We curate the best of our produce for you every week for 10-12 weeks. Your box will have reliable favorites and maybe a few things you’ve never tried — maybe one will be a new favorite! The Farm Box is the best way get the freshest produce possible, other than growing it yourself! It’s also the best way to support our local food economy — every dollar you spend on local food has a multiplying effect in creating jobs, maintaining a sustainable food supply and keeping our community healthy. Our 2024 spring subscription is currently sold out. Follow us on Facebook or Instagram to find out when our summer subscription opens.

How to know if a weekly farm box is right for you.

You like to cook.

You love the taste, smell and aroma of fresh vegetables.

A new herb or vegetable to cook sounds fun.

You want to support family-owned farms. You value fresh, nutritious food.

What to expect

When you buy directly from our farm, you are buying what can be grown in central Texas during the four seasons. For winter and spring, expect leafy greens, onions, root vegetables such as radishes and beets, and some herbs. During the summer, that will mean squashes, potatoes, tomatoes, okra, some greens and plenty of herbs. In the fall, it might be a mix of late summer items plus winter and spring crops.

Farm boxes have a 4-5 hour window for pick up at a public location. All payments are handled online prior to delivery. You may pay upfront for the season subscription (and save some money), or pay weekly automatically. If you plan to go on vacation during the subscription program, you can log into your account and pause a pickup for the week you’re gone.

It’s never been easier or more convenient to buy farm-fresh goodness from a farm that may literally be several miles away from you, not thousands of miles.

Box FAQ

Why subscribe to our Farm Box?

Do the vegetables at the grocery store look old and sad? Do you worry what chemicals might have been sprayed on that produce? Does a container of lettuce you’ve bought at a big supermarket go bad after three days?

Those are three reasons why buying directly from a farm makes sense. The produce you get from us is fresh — usually harvested within 24 hours of when you pick it up. The produce hasn’t traveled a thousand miles in various trucks, warehouses and refrigeration temperatures before finally arriving in Texas. Everything on our farm is grown on an actual, outdoor farm, in soil, and not in an enclosed warehouse.

Our growing practices go beyond organic. We never spray chemicals on our plants or fields, and we put tremendous focus on maintaining healthy soil, something that is not part of USDA organic rules. Our weekly Farm Box is the most direct way to support a local farm and the local food economy. Every dollar you spend goes directly to our farm, which has a multiplying effect on supporting the local economy, such as paying our crew who live in the area a good wage and buying supplies from local businesses. Wouldn’t you rather have your money stay here than go a thousand miles away?

Why our Farm Box vs. farmers market

Both are great. Both support local farms, food producers and food economies. Since our farm box subscribers pre-pay, they receive top priority for the best selection and variety of whatever we’re growing. You get the best selection before anyone else.

How long is the program?

The spring program is 10 weeks and the summer program will be similar. You can join at any time (pending available openings) and cancel anytime (at least 24 hours prior to pick up.)

Where do we pick up?

Pickup locations are Walker Honey Farm in Rogers, Texas and Barrow Brewing Company in Salado, Texas. We will be adding more pickup locations throughout the year.

What can we expect in the boxes?

The spring program will have 5-7 items, and you can expect lettuces, root vegetables, hearty greens, herbs and a microgreens container. The summer program will have 6-8 items, and you can expect root vegetables, tomatoes, herbs, some greens, okra, microgreens and other summer goodness. We determine what’s in the boxes a day or two before the pickup date. That way, we ensure the highest level of freshness. We share on our social media accounts what’s in the box a day prior to pickup if you’d like to plan accordingly.

How does payment work?

You have a few options:

1. A weekly plan, and your credit card is charged automatically several days prior to each box.

2. A full, upfront payment for the program, which will save you some cash, too.

Are there items besides produce?

We’re working on that! We hope to have items beside vegetables that you can add to your box a la carte, for which you would pay for per item. As those items become available, we will let you know.

What if I go on vacation?

We hope you’ll bring us with you! Failing that, you can pause your box for your trip, or you could have a friend or family member pick it to use in their household.

What if I miss a pickup?

Each week, you’ll receive an automated reminder to pick up your box. If your box is not picked up during the available hours for the location you’ve selected, it will be donated to the staff at the pickup location or to a local family in need.

Can we pick up our boxes at your farm?

We’re a small operation so we want to make sure we spend as much time as we can growing food rather than managing traffic!

“Farming by the measure of nature, which is to say the nature of the particular place, means that farmers must tend farms that they know and love, farms small enough to know and love, using tools and methods that they know and love, in the company of neighbors that they know and love.”

— Wendell Berry
