A sustainable life

Bouldin Food Forest grows rich, nutrient-dense food using regenerative agriculture methods. It’s a throwback to a time when agriculture was about craftsmanship, not industrial chemicals favored by today’s large factory farms. The result: beautiful vegetables and a surrounding ecosystem that flourishes.

Regenerative agriculture: This farming practice focuses on minimal soil disturbance, no chemical spraying and a balanced ecosystem. The results are increased biodiversity and enhanced resilience to climate change. To further regenerate the land, we have planted hundreds of trees — fruit, shade and wind breaks — all of which create their own micro ecosystems, attract beneficial wildlife and build soil health.

Our practices: All planting, cultivation, and harvesting is done manually, though we use modern tools and techniques that keep us efficient and competitive. We replant beds constantly throughout the year, rotate crops frequently and grow cover crops. Combined with frequent applications of compost, crop rotation helps maintain fertile soil. We follow all organic practices and do not use manufactured chemicals. Healthy soil is our focus, and our backland prairie soil is some of the best on earth. To us, soil produces the best-tasting, and most nutrient-rich vegetables found anywhere.

Events: At this time, we do not host events.

Tours: The best option for touring the farm is to book a night at our farm guesthouse Persimmon Hill.
